A Heart Sutra Tourbillon Inspired by Chinese Spiritual Art
The Sculpture Series – Heart Sutra Ladies brings together Buddhist symbolism, Chinese calligraphic art, and refined tourbillon craftsmanship in a poetic and culturally rich timepiece.
Inspired by the Heart Sutra, one of the most widely circulated and meaningful Buddhist scriptures in Asia, this watch reflects Memorigin’s effort to preserve and express Chinese culture through horology. The 260-character scripture is intricately engraved across the dial background, with each raised stroke controlled to an extremely fine thickness of approximately 0.03 to 0.05 mm. To reduce thickness while preserving the texture of the engraving, high-density mother-of-pearl is used as the dial material, creating a luminous and elegant foundation for the design.
The dial is framed with a Greek key pattern and uses 11 “Fook” characters in Seal script as hour markers, incorporating traditional Chinese cultural motifs into the display. The blue Ruyi-shaped hands, inspired by auspicious clouds, enhance the symbolic design and feature a strong luminous effect, as do the indexes.
Created in a 35 mm stainless steel case, the watch is powered by a manually wound flying tourbillon movement made up of 158 components and 23 jewels. Beating at 28,800 oscillations per hour, it offers a 60-hour power reserve, while the tourbillon at 6 o’clock completes one full rotation every 60 seconds.
